  1. Compassion means caring for others in a way that makes them feel like they aren’t alone. Compassion is something that connects humans to other humans and helps them through their suffering. Compassion is having feelings of love or longing for something or someone.

  2. With a rusty coin can in her shivering hands, she settled by the road, in her worn-out coat patched with several different cloth. The passers-by viewed her with scorn contempt and swaggered past her. No one seemed to care if she had been suffering from hunger for days, or if she was sick. Uncontrollably, i approached her and drop a $50 bill.

  3. seriously lacking.vth world needs so much more of it. so much more. some people worry about the amount of oil or carbon.. i worry about compassion. the funny thing is, and it’s not funny at all, that when it comes down to it– when all the oil and carbon are gone and everyone is freaking out– i believe compassion will be abundant.

  10. I adore this word. I like to think it describes me. Compassionate, loving, caring. I would like to incorporate compassion into my career someday. It’s the main thing we’ve got going for us humans. Love. Hugging each other. Empathy. I wish we all had more of that. Makes me sad that our world is so lonely.

  13. compassion is caring for another. i wish to define before i proceed because i think love is at the heart of all things, all life, and compassion is one more way to manifest love, but it implies an intimacy, but one that doesn’t have to be familiar. i may be homeless, but i can have compassion on those i do not know. can you have compassion on the earth or just on humans? yes. the earth is the source, a brother creation of a creative principle. a creative principle which springs of love, and compassion is the interconnected quality of that principle. a characteristic of love. becoming connected to another by caring.

    by Kate Butler on 10.13.2011

  18. it’s that thing I want to feel for others, and knowing that I when I have it and practice it that it makes the world a better place, but sometimes it’s not there. It’s not there for people who create more problems than they solve and its not there for people with no self control. if lightning hit you it would not be your fault unless you were holding a lightning rod.

  19. I’m pretty compassionate, kinda, not really though because most people just kind of suck and I’m an insensitive douche bag, oh well. This might be true.

  20. I don’t think I have a lot of compassion, which is sad because a lot of people see it as a desirable trait. I can’t help but not feel sorry for people who get themselves into situations and then expect help and people to feel sorry for them. It might make me a cold, mean person but I can’t help it. I don’t feel sorry for people who fucked up on their own.

  21. He stared into her eyes, she stared blankly into the ceiling above. holding her there, it felt like it did back in the old days, but things were different now. It was cold, it was rainy, and her eyes would never move again. Not after tonight.

    by Rob on 10.13.2011

  27. It lifts one to heights unbound, inspired by naught but the care for another thing. It expands a person, inflates them like a helium balloon to soar upwards, towards a neverending sky. For feeling is giving, and giving is getting.

Compassion is not only for other people but for things. A factory in abandon, a blue sky dancing, a forest polluted. We must feel for the beauty around us as well as the people.

  28. The only thing we both could think of then, was our own true compassion for one another. This was it, our last few moments, it was all we had left in the world and we were blessed enough to share them with each other. In our last show of compassion, we used our last moments for one final kiss to say it all.

  29. It was hard to let her go after all this time. They loved each other, yes, but that alone would not suffice. His life was hidden in the shadow, hers in the light, and he couldn’t risk her being caught in the heat of a battle or threatened because of him. So he left, took to the rooftops, and bathed in the moonlight, sunken in silence, he threw to the wind what little they had.

  30. Compassion is one of the most true and alive feelings we as humans can possess. It can arouse much joy in us but also sorrow. When I see this word, I think of Jesus as a result of all those years and years of bible school lessons drilled into me, i will never forget them.

  40. I seem to have a lack of compassion for many people
Is it because of my life experience?
Is it because I have a certain disdain for the sheeple of the world?
I find it easier to worry about the little dog that finds itself running frantically through traffic on a dark, rainy evening than I might for a person in the same situation
Sometimes, I would like nothing more than to just run them down and be done with their nonsense
