  1. Coward was the word that came rushing to his thoughts. That, and survival. He took another glance at the red, broiling sky and slithered under a piece of concrete and huddled out of the exposed hell. From where he was lying he could see the entire body of the man burst into flames as he stood there with outstretched arms. It was strange. He seemed to be smiling. And the smell was suddenly gone. This was too real, he thought, and closed his eyes.

  2. you sit there, all alone in the corner of the room. she walks in and you’re unable to keep your eyes off of her. you’ve been told time and time again that you won’t get anywhere with her if you don’t let her see that you exist. however, you’re unable to summon up the courage to say a simple “hello”. you are a coward, and you’ve missed your chance at adventure.

  7. Cowardice is what happens when evolution regresses. Cowardice is therefore devolution of the mind. I was going to put a question mark at the end of that last sentence, but decided that that sort of ditheration was a sub-type of cowardice in itself.

  8. Coward. The word rang in his ears as the crowd faded away. All he had to do was throw a single punch. He just wanted to defend her. But the look in her eyes told him he couldn’t do it. She didn’t want it that way, she never would have. The humiliation he suffered from walking away though, it was torture.

  9. If you want to be the asshole, the guy who doesn’t care, the one who lives only for himself and his pleasures, then by all means go ahead. Be the asshole. Own it though, live it, accept it. Don’t go into that bedroom as the asshole and then leaves apologizing. You don’t get to be nice, you don’t get to change and be the nice guy. Stop being a coward and own up to who you really are.

  19. A coward is sometimes me. I’ve been a coward since I was born. I’m always the one who quiets my dad when he goofs off in public. I have a hard time letting go of inhibitions. That’s just the way I am. I’ve tried to change it but at some point you just have to accept it.

  21. I’m a coward I won’t approach any one who looks a bit threatening at work, but then if there was a threat I’d probably dive in there. A coward can also be a brave person who doesn’t put their life at risk. Some of the bravest people are cowards who just act out of instinct and self preservation, for their colleagues or the ones they love. Cowards in the first world war were often men who were shell shocked, not cowards at all but ill from the horrors of war, how would I have reacted seeing all the awful sights and having all their terrible experiences?

  23. she’d never thought of herself as a coward. she’d hated the very idea of it, and she’d taken painstaking pride in the idea that nothing terrified her. she wouldn’t be weak; wouldn’t ever let others think she was.

but how could she possibly deny the the truth – that she was absolutely terrified? she was putting herself on the line in a way that she’d never truly done before, and she couldn’t be more afraid.

afterall, gee had broken her heart once before. what reason could she possible have to believe that the other woman wouldn’t do it again?

  30. He thinks with his gun. He never has the inclination to speak, to try to change things. He blasts off his piece and hopes that is enough to say he’s a man. He’s brave enough to destruct, but too much of a coward to change.
He sits behind his desk, with his fancy Italian shoes, buzzing over his intercom orders. “Julie, bring me coffee!” He’s brave enough to bark orders, but too much of a coward to say that he’s no longer in love with his own wife.
