  1. I often would find my door opened when I returned. It was like I hadn’t locked it. But I had. The cheap lock that came with the apartment was about as safe as jumping off the grand canyon. There was once a shooting in my neighborhood. I installed a deadbolt before too long.

  3. She was running…running through the dark forest…stumbled and fell and scarped her knees badly. She stifled a sob, got quickly up and kept running. She couldn’t let them ctach up. Then, finally, she saw the cabin. Made a dash for it, literally pushed the door open, shut it firmly behind her and locked the deadbolt. Trying to catch her breath she wondered for how she would be safe there…Not for long probably.

  4. Dead Bolt is a word that honestly speaking i am hearing in this part of the world for the First time. Nonetheless i presume it could mean something that hit you dead and is like a bolt. 6. Deadbolt is dead the bolt of disdain.
Lost to all who once had use for it.
Tossed into the tool box as if it never was.
The door swings open never to be locked again.
At least the door is no longer closed to anyone.

  7. Well and truly jodido, this situation called for a bolt of death. He took out his tobacco from a small leather pouch, just a pinch and placed it in a skin. Pinching the middle he rolled it out towards the sides in uniform thickness and licked the sticky part before closing the cigarette over. Needed a spark.

  10. This door between us, I can feel you on the other side. It pains to know this only hurdle between us, deadbolt, I’m locked outside. I hate to hear your cries there, I smile when I hear you laugh, the times I wished I could break it down, so I could come be there, but this lifeless bolt to me won’t answer. One fear I have, that you hold the key, and you still left me out. Worst, you lost the key.

  11. The door stood alone in all it’s glory, traces or broken walls around it. It seemed monumental, with its age, throwing an imagination of what it once protected. It was sad to see how without an inside to keep from the outside, it was a door to nowhere, yet the deadbolt held even today, the key lost somewhere in time. They tired opening it, it wouldn’t budge, the whole door almost came down. They could’ve taken it down, but no one saw the point of it, so it stands there yet, the door to nowhere. Some say if you could get it open, it could lead you back in time, other’s saw the lock is of a good build, not sorry excuses like today.
And then there are people like me, who try to open the door, because some where it started to mean something to me, representing all that I shut out, all that in life that is behind closed invisible doors, and I know if I could just open this door, walk through the frame, I shall get the strength to open and answer to all doors and knocks in life. I’ll see you on the other side.

  14. I tried the handle. It didn’t give. I pulled harder, trying to fight the urge to breathe in. My eyes were stinging, and streaming so much I couldn’t see a thing, not even the smoke that was swirling around me. I turned around, reaching my hands out and feeling the head around me. I guess that’s why they call it a deadbolt.

  29. She cowered on the tile bathroom floor, the cold on her legs was the least of her worries. The pounding came again and the front door began to creak on it’s hinges. She dialed her cellphone and waited an eternity for the call to finally connect, she never noticed how long it took before this night. She wondered about her chain lock and realized the ultimate futility of it in the first place. Whoever it was would get in regardless of her insignificant assortment of placebos keeping her door closed at night.
