  1. Discovery is a beautiful thing. We discover love, adventure, experiences, God. Through discovery we learn about ourselves and our world. We grow spiritually, physically, emotionally. We discover things in all that we do. The smallest every day things can lead us to incredible discoveries.

  4. I heard somewhere that one should learn all that they can about the world. There’s so much I’d like to know, to learn, to discover. I’m intrigued by all things medical and scientific. The brain, the body, things that are so small we cannot see them with our naked human eyes. I’d like to learn about history and people from all over the world. I’d like to discover more about myself, even.

  6. There’s a lot I’d like to discover about myself. One reason that dying sounds so awful to me is because if I die now, I’ll never know about me in the future. I’ll never discover what job I got, who I turned out to be; I’d never discover if/when I got married, if I had kids, what kind of person I really am and how great or terrible I can really be.

  7. At the beginning of the climb the boy was sure that the top was close. He could just barely see it from the soft patch of grass where he stood. “It should be easy from here,” he though. “If I fall, this soft grass will catch me.” And as he climbed the boy could see the top clearer, if only a little. He fell once as the ground came nearer he wasn’t worried. He knew that he would feel no pain when he landed; but as he ascended higher up the incline each fall greeted him with a harder and harder landing. Before long the boy was hunched over from the soreness of his back and even though he wanted to stop, he knew he was so close. So he continued until one day the boy forgot why he began the climb in the first place. No longer did he ache to reach the top and it was then that the now old man said, “I think I’ll find myself a soft patch on which to rest.”

  10. It was my first time camping, and I was given the amazing privilege of exploring on my own. My twelve year old mind was flying with the possibilities this entailed. I discovered my own private little island, with white butterflies everywhere. They landed all over me, and I closed my eyes and felt that my life had been so full of joy, it was unbearable.

I returned last year, standing on the other side of the little creek that isolated that tiny patch of land. Had it always been that small? Had it always been so close to camp? The butterflies were gone. I perched myself on a rock and watched the water flow to the west, thinking that my life had been full of so much pain, it was unbearable.

  29. Discovery is a fascinating thing, but it becomes more passe as one grows older. Every experience is one of discovery as a child, but perhaps it becomes less thrilling as one ages?
