  3. “Come forth little one, we haven’t much time.” I whispered to the young boy, his round, brown eyes scared and uncertain. I extended my hand once more but he merely stared down at it, biting his dark pink lips.
    “Damn it we need to go!” hissed Sebastian next to me, impatience in his voice.
    “Yes, yes I know. But we can’t leave without him.” I looked back to the boy in the closet hidden amongst the clothes. I was able to see his pale complexion and anorexic-thin frame making my heart sink. He reminded me of my cousin when we were younger. Before we were starving peasants. Back before the pandemic began.
    “Oh give it here then!” Sebastian said, grabbing his arm and dragging him out of the closet. The little boy shrieked and kicked Sebastian’s leg who screamed out, more in surprise than pain. Rolling my eyes I followed them through the corridors. Sure Sebastian’s methods weren’t the most ethical, but they did work.

I placed my hand upon his and squeezed it. Standing up I walked away, leaving him, the battlefield, and my family behind.

    I watched feverishly, eating pizza topped with pepperoni, sausage, and sweet green pepper. Spice laden on my tongue as the orange and black blurred on the bleachers. Red countering us full blazen, biting their tongues as the bats split in wooden splintered halves and we ran in one.
