  1. A little silver thing. I can’t even describe it’s shape. But it had blue edging it with a miedium sized screen stuck in the middle. I have no idea what it was.

  2. It’s been sitting on the top of the sink for ages, now. Just a little green and gold thingy-ma-jig. Something left over from the Wonder Years, when things actually happened. Exciting things, y’know? Like that time when you and I took out the Evil Henchmen in One Fell Swoop. That was a great day.
That little thing, that little green and gold thingy… Damn, I don’t even remember what we called it.
Guess growing up makes you lose your imagination, and your sense of magic and mystery.

  3. gadget, an instrument to open something or help in making working easier, such as a can opener, a kitchen gadget is a familiar word. I use gadgets around the house, they are usually small in structure. Sometimes a gadget can be an object used for something else.

  6. This was my first date in college, and my fashion-conscious roommate had been psyching me out all week about the importance of dressing well. I tried on a gray pea coat and a black fedora. He looked at me deadpan for a moment, then belted out, “Whoo-whoo! Inspector Gadget! Na-nuh-na-nuh-nuh! Whoo-whoo!”

  7. A tool, fairly limited use and can perhaps be better replaced with a more traditional method of doing whatever it is its inventor intended it to do. Slightly derogatory, but with perhaps a growing cachet in an era of electronic devices and geek chic.

  8. I’ll make you think you’re mine. You’ll be my slave, my gadget, my trophy–I can make you think like that. Little lover from an abusive father, you’re such a cliche, you’re a nightmare in that faded-pink dress, even color is desperate to get away from you, look at that. And they say that places can keep emotional charges, that’s why you see ghosts, at the places of murders or car accidents–when they died, an explosion of their energy, at just that moment, too heavy for the wind to blow away, decaying at the slowest rate, and when you walk into it–you’re bathed in it, no wonder you feel like shit, that apprehension, that tension, that nervous heartbeat.
And that’s just what you are, you’re that terrible place, you’re not a body, you’re geography, a deposit of bad energy, and I’ll tear out all your roads, all the devils’ bones buried in the crossroads, and I’ll make you mine, girl, we’ll change all that

    by Alyse on 04.20.2011
  12. The old man sighed. He watched the youth parade around the streets on their cell phones, iPods, laptops, and whatever other new-fangled gadgets this high tech world was providing. It was just another way for people to become disconnected from each other. Or was it more connected? He didn’t understand. He never did. It made him uncomfortable. They were good ideas, sure- he wasn’t that behind. But was it really worth it? What ever happened to the days where people just hung out with each other. Laughing hard, drinking beers and shooting shit away for hours. Eventually it would catch up to them. Eventually, everyone would just stop speaking to each other. Eventually, love and innocence and confrontation would just be a thing that ‘ma and pa’ did back in the good ol’ days. He sat back and looked up at the ever welcoming sky. “I’ll be there soon, God, and when I am, I don’t want to see one damned cell phone- just promise me that.”

  13. gadgets are used to distract. They arent completely necessary; but we believe they are. If we didnt have them, we would be better off. Mundane, daily chores may not be as convienient, but we would actually communicate with other humans.

I tend to think of many at once, dangling from toy-store ceilings, beckoning to children who pass like so many mobiles. Chinese dragons, finger-puppets, otherwise. But these are all toys and not really gadgets at all.

  27. Gadgets and gizmos. Perfectly good words. Can describe many things, few or no limitations on them. So why aren’t they used more often? It doesn’t make sense. Gadgets and gizmos and thingamabobs, oh my.

  30. Gadget’s are an interesting thing. This reminds me of Just a Minute. When I was younger I think I was more preoccupied by gadgets than I am now, I remember how much I desired an iPod, then I got it and was ecstatic. Perhaps financial constraints, growing up have diminished my desire for gadgetry. I prefer soft toys.

  38. There was no way of understanding the foreign gadget that laid before them. No matter how many times it was turned over, poked and prodded and eventually thrown at the wall…it still baffled the mind that such a thing existed. Eventually the two of them decided to call it a day and went up to the bed they had called paradise for years. A cell phone really has no place in the life of a 91 year old anyways.
