Actually, no, the last time I saw something like that was on my camping trip in West Virginia. Me and seven other guys stood outside and watched in awe and lightning exploded all around us, only thinking a little bit about our safety.

Even after all these years, there was still light.

  20. strikes suddenly. in life and in death and in insight. nothing to do to prepare. just hunker down and wait and open up. stay in the open emotionally and spiritually. letting everything just come and go and, if you’re lucky, it will strike without warning and wreck your life to make room for a new one.

  21. Still her eyes

    Wild her heart
    like lightening

    on a hilltop she sat

    alone and windswept

  22. Lightning strikes in the middle of the night. That’s the most beautiful time it could show up. The strong bolts rippling through the sky, putting a crack in a jet black canvas. Few things emit wonder or make you really appreciate the beauty of the world. When accompanied by thunder it’s as if they are shocking you into looking up and knowing there’s a God.

  24. Lightning reminds me of lots of happy things.
First of all, I love thunderstorms.
Lightning reminds me of the boy who lived; my childhood love, Harry.
It reminds me of that song “Angel from Montgomery,” that will always be the first song I start to play when I pick up a guitar.
Lightning reminds me of how powerful my God is.
Lightning also scares me sometimes because it can kill you if it strikes you; but you’re lucky if it doesn’t because it leaves a really cool scar.

  25. I was once asked if I believed the sunrise was more beautiful than the sunset. To my knowledge, each scene represents an expressly different mindset. The sunrise is, if you are lucky enough to catch it, a beginning, a daily rebirth where you may find yourself ready to take all comers, a dawn of not only the day, but of your renewed spirit for life. The sunset, on the other hand, is associated with a completion, the end of a hard days work, the last day of your vacation, that much anticipated moment when you will be able to lay your head down and rest, a calm and soothing setting of the light and your soul. I cannot tell you which hold more beauty because with each day comes a new set of emotions and events. To see the sun mix into the clouds on the horizon of the pacific ocean and watch as the clouds come out from their hiding spots and take their nightly throne is just as touching to me as seeing them lit aflame with the St. Elmo’s fire of the early morning, pink only as flamingos on a lawn in the southwest know to be. What I can tell you is that the one natural moment of inclement weather that I prefer above all else is the Lightning. It has as much power to us as the sun itself, reminding those on Earth of the vengeful gods above, the rock gods with their quadrillion pedaled bass drums and ballads of light dancing and flaming and exalting no one. They raze in a split second what takes years to create, and it is not sad. It is truly beautiful.

  26. big flash of light the thunder followed quickly the child cried the dog was barking and rain poured and clanked on the tin roof. harry potters scar flashed across my mind.

  27. Lightning struck. The earth suddenly became as bright as day, giving the girl time to see the breathtaking view below her. The rain was beating down on her and her clothes were no protection from the howling wind, but here was nature laid out before her. A sight few had ever seen, and that one flash of lightning had been a sight she would never forget.

  28. scary. saw lightening today that was accompanied by the loudest crack of thunder i have ever heard. something had to have been struck. i was expecting to see someone’s car on fire in the parking lot when i left the gym. i was also excpecting the power to be out at my apartment.

  29. It’s not just the dark sky that the lightning brightened. Something about the chaos out there makes me forget about the problems inside. If I can see that nature is going through hell, I’ll feel a lot less alone.

  30. I love the way the lightening hits the ground with a force. It disrupts everything. Like a flash from god saying “surprise”. It can happen anywhere. There are no limits. Makes me think about how scary that power can be. Life changing right?

  31. There was a whole new world out there, but the boy didn’t want to see it. It was unfamiliar and it was cold and scary. He wouldn’t last. So there, he sat on his bed in his new room in this foreign country, eyes closed while he listened to the lightning and thunder strike one after the other. The sound seem to be the only thing that was familiar to him…

  32. It forces electricity through the air in the wind-blown night. It’s eccentric. It’s daring. It knows all and it tells all. It’s raw, and it doesn’t care if you’re ready for it or expecting it. It’s going to strike and it’s going to strike wherever it pleases.

    And that’s horribly frightening.

  38. i read once about a guy who was on a pay phone and it got struck by lightning. he was thrown backwards, went into cardiac arrest, and had an out of body experience. he was brought back by paramedics, and afterwards developed an obsession with classical piano. he started playing, played all the time, quit his job as a orthodontist, got divorced, all just to feed this insatiable urge to compose.
