Everything will be ok. Really it’s fine. The light at the end of the tunnel is not a train, it is a candle.

Optimism is nothing without negativity. Somewhere in between is practicality. And somewhere beyond optimism is actual happiness. Actual happiness doesn’t require optimism. Optimism mirrors despair.
By JWade on 12.21.2010
*Sigh* Optimism again. Well, it’s the time of year for optimism and joy and cheer! Family, friends, and strangers should all be in the holiday mood with only 4 days left ’till Christmas!

Is something that I love having in my life. Especially since I moved to China. I have been poorer and sadder then ever before and optimism has always gotten me through and things are finally looking up! It only took 1 year and 4 months to make my dreams come true.

hopefulness and confidence for the future.
absolutely nothing I have.
I’m more of a pessimist.

What everyone should be. What I want to be, but finds it difficult. A beautiful thing. Would make this a better place.
By Alexa on 12.21.2010
I just did this. Darn. Anyway. Living in optimisim, hmm, is enlightening. Forcibly telling yourself positive things, or spinning things to be positive, is difficult, but makes things seem a lot better. Trust me, I’ve been having to live in optimism recently so I don’t go crazy. It helps a lot. Seriously.
By Christie on 12.21.2010
Optimism isn’t something everyone has. I try to be optimistic all the time, but it never works out. Apparently, optimists see the glass as half full. Sometimes, I’m convinced I never even saw a glass in the first place. I suppose that’s where the problem lies. Maybe it’s not seeing things positively. It’s seeing things at all.

My high school sweetheart used to call me “Pollyanna”. At the time, it pissed me off. I hated it, and I hated him for it, because of the venom in his voice when he used the word. “Whatever you say, Pollyanna.”
Now, I like it. I like that I don’t expect every situation to turn to shit like he did. I’m glad to love things for unexpected reasons because it makes my day to day life just a little easier.
Some days I miss his sarcasm and dry humor. But most days, I’m happy to not have to deal with his bullshit.
By Breanna on 12.21.2010
OH! living positively is so awesome. Yesterday I felt really sad, but then I decided to be happy and I was. Things started looking up. Life was good again, I am Eeyore no longer. Be happy.

A lot of people say nowadays that in these “hard times,” all they want is a little optimism.
Except by optimism they mean money.
By Grace on 12.21.2010
I have always lacked optimism, and when given even the slightest bit of affection the negativity within myself just craves to burst. Heart broken, down trodden, oppressed. That is all I seem to know how to be, but I really want optimism more than anything. I will change. and lose twenty pounds.
By estefania on 12.21.2010
charged positivity reacts to negative symbols in the spectrum.
we are the top notch charge, lightning bolts from heavens even.

optimism can keep you alive sometimes. have you ever been locked in a cage for days without food or water with only the knowledge that your friend is out there somewhere and is trying to rescue you. Gotta remain optimistic, he’s coming for me and when he does he will help me get my revenge on those who did this to me.
By J Williams URL on 12.21.2010
“Optimism?” she asked him. “What is that any way? The art of looking over everything real. That’s what it is. I refuse to look aver everything just for my own happiness.” She glared at him. “Do you want to save the world or not?”
By The Freak in the Corner on 12.21.2010
I have a hard time believing in this . Life is so unsure, so shitty. Why would you try to make everything seem good when it isn’t? It’s just a way of avoiding the real truth.
By Katy Kemmick on 12.21.2010
The half full silver lining that so many people under rate and forget the absolute necessity it is to have this. Hard to foster in others, but so easy to create in yourself. It’s your own life so make it what you want it to be. It always gets better.
By Netty on 12.21.2010
Drat, optimism, it’s been done; I’ve heard tell the sun comes up every day in some places but I don’t want to know about that, instead I lie in the green here in whatever comes whatever comes because it will be better than what’s here now, won’t it? In the green waiting to be compressed by another.
By Patricia Esposito on 12.21.2010
Optimism is found in happiness. It takes a special fire inside yourself to be optimistic towards what means the most to yourself. Feel optimism when your trying to acquire what means most to you. I think, in order to be optimistic, you must dig deep and surrender your fears, because optimism does not come from fear, it comes from strength.

With the lunar eclipse I woke with a sense that maybe today could be the start of the rest of my life. A day where all my actions were powerful beyond measure; that I could leave the past behind. But then I paused. Isn’t that everyday? Isn’t everyday the first day of the rest of your life? Yes, I smiled.
By Amber Rene URL on 12.21.2010
The sun shines everyday, whether or not we see it. I’m a pessimist at heart but I try to make everything into sunshine and rainbows… Just so I can smile
By Cait on 12.21.2010
you have to be positive, and have a positive outlook. You make your life, and its decisions.
By marvin joseph on 12.21.2010
Optimism was a girl with a laugh that made grown men whip around to stare. She was the girl you envied, but she was also kind of fucked-up. She dyed her hair green and wore plastic barettes, but she was beautiful. Her parents were hippies.
By Mix on 12.21.2010
fun and free of fear. Careless and careful. Opportunity and understanding of the opposite. Life and living. Always on the bright side but respects the dark side. The solution to problems.
By Bonita James URL on 12.21.2010
Erica can’t be optimistic about this. In fact, she doesn’t really know how to be optimistic at all about anything related to Alexandria or this crazy half-romance she’s found herself in. Yes, Alexandria is reciprocating somewhat, she’s flirting with Erica and kissing her so close to the lips–but will this last? Erica’s doubtful. Optimism? What optimism? She can’t find any in her heart.
By Chloe URL on 12.21.2010
i really find it hard to be optimistic. too many negative things are happening in this world. optimism is just too difficult if not impossible. why is there even such a word in use? if it is ever used in reality.
By Celina URL on 12.21.2010
It’s challenging, this optimism thing. It’s something that you have to learn to never let go of. Even when its been night for weeks and you can’t remember why you ever smiled, try and remember that golden weaving thread of optimism. Because it is the birthplace of hope and with out hope? We are nothing.
By Caroline URL on 12.21.2010
optimism can sometimes be annoying. While it is true that it’s supposed to be encouraging, it’s not really helpful to see someone who seems like he doesn’t understand you when you have problems. it’s not very helpful at all.
By Celina D URL on 12.21.2010
I don’t think I have a case of over optimism. I do like to keep the door open for marvelous outcomes because if you shut the door on hope then you have little chance of receiving life’s gifts.
By peaceable URL on 12.21.2010
You morons always looking on the bright side. Well, guess what opportunity exists whether you are positive about the end or not. Pessimism can be just as motivating as optimism.

Something that is overrated in so many people. I am a realist. My husband is an optimist. Together, as a team, we do well together. Separately each mindset has it’s drawbacks.

Happiness is seen through the eyes, through the heart. Looking into another soul, you will see them smile. If you just listen. Hear their heartbeat. Feel the vibe. Gain awareness.

I think of it as a glass half full. But what do you see, huh? I’ll bet any money that you think it’s half empty. I try to be an optimist and what do I get in return? This. This dreadful pessimism. You make me sick, you pessimist. Absolutely sick.
By Emilie Cackowsky on 12.21.2010
Happy happy joy joy- is there anything with being optimistic? It’s just being realistic, with a little bit of a hope involved. I mean, as long as you know what could go wrong, what’s wrong with thinking about what could go right? Smile, kids. Nobody is making you sad, so why not be optimistic?

The boys were wide-eyed and beaming through the entire course of the trip.
Until I showed them two bottles, one labelled “starving babies” and the other “the jilting of a lover.”
“What are those?” they asked.
I uncorked each and poured their contents on the ground.
They lost that gleam.
