Pop. Instantly popping in the microwave, like little children springing up from a pool after gasping for breath. Pop! Pop! Pop! The kernels resonating the smell, making your nose hairs strike on end.
The movie theater was jam packed as my three year old daughter clamored to find her seat for the very first time. Her little hand held mine tightly as we meandered through the crowd. Her eyes were wide and her anticipation at its highest. We sat down and immediately she reached into the bowl. Popcorn. Delicious, fresh, buttery movie theater popcorn. In her mind, it was the biggest part of her first movie experience. Forever, popcorn will be a huge part of the experience.

“Mmmm,” she hummed as the popping sounds filled the room. “How’d you know this is my favorite food?”
“It’s everyone’s favorite food,” he answered, his eyes never leaving the pot. When the popping ceased, they both dove into the kitchen, both determined to get the most.
I really like popcorn. It is a great snack to have with your family while you are doing something fun or just relaxing. My favorite kind of popcorn is cheddar popcorn. Caramel popcorn tastes pretty good, too. The only problem with popcorn is that it might get stuck in your teeth, which doesn’t feel very good. It is a good idea to have dental floss ready for after you are done eating popcorn.

Im not sure when my love affair with popcorn started. Some of my youngest memories have the image or smell of popcorn firmly imbedded within them. I remember the electronic air popper that my mother once bought. The tall plastic stand would churn curn the kernnels around, ad the clear, butter-yellow top would funnel those fluffy-white tidbits into my waiting bowl. My grubby, little hands would often flick in to snatch a puff or two as they came down the chute. Each stolen bite making my sisters whine in protest. The popper had a small compartment at the top that melted butter while the corn popped. My sisters would argue over who would get to pour the butter over the bowl as I dipped a kernnel in the residue before settling down with the bowl firmly in my lap, sisters sitting to either side of me.
Even older are the memories of my grandmother poping corn on the stovetop. She would lightly oil up the ancient cast iron pan, pour in the kernels, and cover the whole thing. We waited anxiously, listening to the ping-ping-ping of those kernnels as they richocheted around the pan. She would then up-end the pan into a bowl and sprinkle it with salt. I dont remember having had butter then. But the bowl was soon empty non-the-less.
Now, the popcorn obsession continues. My daughters and son are addicted to the same buttery goodness that I still enjoy. Instead of cast iron pans and air poppers, my kids wait eagerly by the microwave door, waiting for that PING! that signals a fight for the popcorn bowl.
It’s something that I eat whenever I go to the movies. I don’t think I have eaten it anywhere else. I don’t think anyone eats it except for when they watch movies.

Popcorn is good to eat for a healthy snack. It is made from kernals of corn which are popped with the application of heat. They can be seasoned in different ways and enjoyed as a snack by themselver or with other fruits.

“Those things are so expensive,” said Harold beside me. “I don’t know why anyone would want to buy it here.”
“Do you want some?” the guy next to me shook the giant tub in front of my face. “I think we ordered too much.” The girl leaned her head back and smiled at us.
“Sure.” I took a mouthful and turned to Harold.
He was looking away. “I don’t like my hands oily while I watch movies.”
What was the name of the movie? The one with Lee Marvin? I remember he played a drunk, but then who doesn’t. We were all so good at that back then. Sneaking the whiskey in and forgoing the better calories. We could live for days like that. Until we spilled and we all got stuck and we moved on.
Pop. Pop. Pop. He watched the popcorn pop slowly before returning back to the couch with his sweetheart. He loved days like this. No interruptions. No arguments. Just a peaceful movie with her, eating some popcorn, and cuddling.
