  1. the man looked at his watch. he had been there for several hours. there was still no change. he was beginning to think that there was no chance of him getting a story from this. his information was unreliable, but for some profound reason he was drawn to this abandoned house, like a moth to a flickering candle. there had to be a story here. glancing at his watch again, even though he already knew the time down to the minute. he stood up from the dusty couch, and walked across the creaky floor to the front door.
he heard a creak. he froze. was he alone? he held his breath, terrified. another creak. he spun around, and something collided with his head. his vision blurred as he toppled to the ground. feet walked towards him, and the velvety cloud of darkness shrouded his vision. he did not dream.

  2. I used to want to be a reporter. I mean, I thought it would be interesting. Relaying important information to the world. But I guess I was disillusioned when I started really listening to people’s opinions. What a bunch of assholes. I didn’t feel like putting up with so much shit. Maybe the reason I want to go into education is because I will be helping people and who can really find a problem with that?

  16. I used to think I wanted to be a reporter. I declared a Print Journalism major, took my pre-rec classes, and languished. I hated it; I hated the meddling nature of media, I hated interviewing, and I had no interest in national events. I loved words and writing, so I changed majors. Now I’m in Linguistics and I study words, just the words, and love being free from reporting.

  40. As a reporter, it was my job to make sure the truth was told and I wasn’t going to let anything come between me and the truth. I crouched behind the dumpster as I heard the door open. Quickly grabbing my voice recorder from the pocket of my jacket, I pushed the button to start recording and held my breath. I had no idea who had just come out the door, but I was going to record everything they said, regardless.
