  14. a typewriter preceded the internet and keyboard. My parents used typewriters to write their college applications, which I found kinda crazy because I’m a huge personal fan of the “backspace” and “undo” functions. How would I survive without those? 16. Joseph pushed his horn-rimmed spectacles up his nose bridge to keep them in place, although unsuccessfully. His fingertips continued to click the circular black buttons on his agely typewriter.

‘My dearest Lilly,’ he wrote, ‘the countryside is vast and green. Quiet, as I always desired for the city to be, albeit lonely without you. I’d trade in the tranquility of this endless grassland for the noise of the rushing city just to see you for a second…’

He paused, as his spectacles slid down his face, again. Looking up, he looked out the dirty window from which a single ray of golden sunshine peeked out. He took out the parchment from the typewriter and balled it in his calloused hands and threw it to the ground before standing up promptly. In a single, fluid movement he opened the front door, grabbed his musky-smelling leather jacket, put on his hat and left the house.

The typewriter though, that’s all just for me. That they are mine.
