  1. Patriotism can be such a terrible thing… why should the country come before people? 8. it must be hard to make a flag that properly represents any gathering tribe or organization. most flags do not induce patriotism or allegiance with their pictures, but with the idea of the flag itself. it unites the ppl, gives them a common symbol to identify with and fight for. as countries like canada and japan have proven, your symbol can be weak and useless, but effective if the colors and lines are right. simple and pleasing so anyone can recreate it and everyone can enjoy it.

  26. i flagged him down at four in the morning, knowing dawn would soon be approaching. i had developed a sense for four in the morning, after seeing it so many times in my insomnia. i could predict when the sky would begin to lighten and i’d see the change all the way through more times than i could remember. it would beautiful, the way dawn always came when i most fearful of the dark, paranoid insomnia and no coffee because i actually wanted to sleep. sometimes i hated sleeping and being tired and sometimes i couldn’t remember if i slept or lay awake for hours. it was that kind of night when i found him driving aimlessly as i walked the streets aimlessly as well. i had been in bed since midnight and i had no idea if i’d ever fallen asleep at all. i thought maybe i’d had some sort of dozing, but it didn’t matter much because once four in the morning rolled around i knew i wouldn’t be sleeping until after dawn. i guess he’d felt the same way. i heard his truck driving from the down the street and i looked up into his headlights and squinted and tried to see if it was really him, even though i knew it had to be because he was too lazy to ever change his muffler. i waved and he stopped. i was relieved that he’d recognized me, but then, not many other people were out at that hour in that neighborhood. i knew he’d figure i’d had another restless night and would take me for a drive with him.

  29. “That’s a flag!”

Haha, that’s what this one goalie said during a soccer game last season. It was hilarious. One of our guys did a front flip for the throw in, and then the goalie proceeded to say that.

It was funny because first of all, the throw in was completely legal, and secondly, there are no flags in soccer.
