5 Entries for “enrichment”

  1. As a child Sophie had been told many times that she was a dreamer with her head in the clouds and would never achieve anything in life. Her parents repeatedly berated her for spending time gazing at the clear blue sky or staring out of the window as the rain fell. “Snap out of it,” they would say. “Do something practical.” Still she gazed. “What are you doing?” They would sneer, “looking for little green men?”. Sophie mentally shut them out. They didn’t understand. Sophie’s parents were concerned when she disappeared, ran away from them, slept where she could, gazed at the hail as it fell, and watched the lightning as it cracked across the darkness of night. Years later she returned to her homestead and showed her ageing parents her newly acquired doctorate in meteorology. They changed their tune and their minds about her then, but it was too late. She walked away and travelled the world researching into weather, still gazing at the sky.

  3. Make it not boring. Maybe you don’t need diamonds, just bits of colored glass to curve rainbows around. Let the dandelions grow in your yard like a galaxy of little suns.

  4. The school provided toys and colorful books for the students’ enrichment. It contrasted with the gray and colorless environment outside the school buildings. One of the students would try to take something back with her and the teacher would gently remove the object, a book or a crayon, from the child’s grip. “Please, we have to make sure we have enough equipment so that everyone can get a chance to use these.”
