The story she told herself was that she was returning to the city to reclaim her identity. She no longer wanted to be a rural farmer. She enjoyed the work but not the additional expectations of caring for the young children as well as the elderly relatives, of cooking large dinners and waiting for the men to eat their fill before she could eat.
