Whew! Sometimes hard sometimes easy. Meditation teaches being present. That very much helps. If I like it, I’m focused. If I don’t like it, I have to try harder. Focus. Right now I’m focused on the word focus! Is there still more time? This is taking forever!!! Ok. I’m done focusing on this.

Focus is hard for me. Sometimes I get it, go beyond time and hunger and sound and sight. Nothing exists except what I am doing. I like hyperfocus, it feels good, complete, nothing wasted, nothing scattered. Other times, I feel underwater, everything muddled, having to push myself back through to the surface when all I want to do is float in the silence.
she tried hard, she tried really hard but she just couldn’t focus. the grip on her pencil was weakening, her vision beginning to blur into a hazy blur. despite this, she grit her teeth and tried. though the life was leaving her body, it was most imperative that she write this. so that no one else would suffer as she had. in the years that would come, the last lines of her life would be immortalized in spellbooks, written on monuments, and engraved into furniture.

The kids were all moving and it was difficult to get a family shot. Once I had the elders in focus, as they remained still, other people had closed their eyes or they didn’t like the expression on their faces. I thought back to the old days, when we had film and couldn’t instantaneously see the imagines in the camera and people had to be satisfied with whatever image I could capture.
