“All you need is a roof over your head.” That’s what people say to me when I complain about how my landlord hasn’t fixed my AC since summer started. “At least you have a place to sleep.” Is what people say when I tell them that I’ve been sleeping on the roof of my luxury apartment instead of in my room because the outside is cooler. “Maybe you’ll finally start talking and find a boyfriend.” Is what my parents say when I say I’ve been sleeping on the roof of my apartment. They’re right, I did because his ac was broken too and he was also sick of complaining and so was his boyfriend and then they met me and I met them and for the first time I had someone who could sympathize.

The rain is pounding on the roof above me. It’s sounds calming and melodic. Beautiful and otherworldly. This. This is what peace feels like. Here, listening to the sounds of the rain pattering and feeling the world pass by slowly.
