the wrath is coming again, always sour, but promising to be sweet. Oh that life could be plucked to soon, or is there such a thing? We will face each day as fruit, because grapes are the fruit of hope. If one fails there is always another chance, there is always another day

When I was very small, we had a grape vine in our front yard. I remember that house, and the yard, and my parents never being home with me. I was so small. My grandparents raised me, I think, and I attribute more to them than to my parents. To this day I’ve never tasted a grape as sweet as the ones on that vine. And to this day my grandparents are more my family than my mom and dad are.

Eating, falling from the sky, sweetsourperfect, choking me as they tumble down my throat, too many of them, too fast, too much. I can’t swallow them all fast enough. My stomach is expanding, I am expanding exponentially, but I cannot grow fast enough.

They’re purple. They’re sour. Great and juicy but really irritating when I’m supposed to eat them right after dinner, while I’m watching TV. Green ones are really sour. I love grape juice. Mmm. Tropicana. Yum. It’s healthy, too. But we don’t get Tropicana here. But still. I love it.

She screamed.
“Is this some kind of sick joke? Why would you do this?”
He looked at her curiously. “Ma’am? What seems to be the problem?”
“How dare you trick me into putting my hand in a bowl of human eye–“
“Ma’am. Those are grapes.”

Grapes. The grapes of wrath. Once I saw a book on in the library shelves called The Wrath of Grapes. That made me laugh, not only because of the Steinbeck reference, but also because I automatically imagined angry little purple grapes in a bunch on a vine.

grapes may be sour or sweet. You can fit lots in your mouth. I do not like grape jelly at all. I hate it. Grape leaves make the best Greek dish. I love that. and I love the wine that comes from grapes. Napa Valley and the Columbia Basin are Grapeland, USA. Grapes are good. Anna loves grapes. They are her size. Red and black grapes are my favorites. Grapes could heal the world. Grapes, great, gray, grapey goo.
