I’d hit a wall. It was bad enough to lightly tap into it, but it was worse when you’d ram into it headfirst, blood pouring out of the cuts on your lip and the dizzying sensation that would elicit from your head.

It was a single note that changed the trajectory of my life. Just one note in an envelope from the boy next door, scrawled in perfect cursive. I never could've imagined what it would’ve said, ten years after we’d parted and said goodbye, albeit a bit sloppily rather than the movie-scene confession and evening walk under a pink sunset I dreamed of ten too many times.
It read, “I miss you.”
