She paced about in front of the window, her hand held gently over the small mound just below her waistline. She felt sick to her stomach, like her whole world was coming to an abrupt, certain end. She stared out the rain-drenched windowpanes, over the field, past the rolling hillsides. Grey clouds rolled over the mountainside, floating loftily over the pasture. The whole world was moving around her, and she was convinced that her own world was almost entirely over.
