I have a friend who is profoundly deaf. This means she can hear virtually nothing at all, sometimes just a light buzzing sound. She had a cochlear implant five years ago and, now in her 60s, she is getting used to hearing sounds to a certain extent - having lost her hearing at a very young age, her mind is having profound difficulties now in trying to interpret the sounds.
