For a moment, she didn't believe her eyes. She remembered his words, heard the shot, but still, even now, she couldn't fathom him leaving her even as the blood pooled beneath her. His spirit, his life-gone, ended,
Left.
Without a thought, she leaned into his embrace. She smiled as he kissed her forehead, and looked up.
"Can you believe you're a father?"
He smiled down at her, his eyes still awed.
"No."
I couldn't believe how simple it was.
Everything just seemed to click, leaving no room for doubt.
I hadn't realized before because I hadn't WANTED to believe. I looked at him now, my face betraying a calm I didn't feel.
"It was you," I whispered.
He looked so...nonchalant. It was the first word that came to mind as she saw him standing there against the wall without a care in the world. She wanted him, that much was clear, but he was such an enigma. How could she tell him?
Each footstep brought her closer. And despite the pain, the blood that dripped down her side, she kept going. Even though they were miles apart, she had to tell him, she had to let him know.
She was alive.
he couldn't believe what he had seen
"An..elementalist?" She nodded.
"What does this mean?"
"It means," she said. "That our relationship is done. You know too much."
Before he could blink she was gone.
He asked himself exactly when his life had taken this strange turn.
