He stood at the alter in shock for a moment. He took a slow look around him at all his friends and family. They frown at him, unsure of what to do, which is when he closed his mouth, and smiled. "Well," he said slowly, "that was short-lived." His sister chuckled softly and walked up to him. "Guess she wasn't a keeper."
She dreaded her next science class. She knew the moment she sat next to him, she'd burst into tears. Better to just skip it, she thought wearily, locking the bathroom stall and getting comfortable.
His suit was uncomfortably tight. He tugged at his tie, freeing his neck.
She held her hand out for him to grab. "Noah! Just grab my hand!" she called out desperately. Noah reached, but couldn't quite grasp it. "I-I can't, the train is moving too fast." Adrenaline rushed through Emma's veins, and she reached out as far as she could, grabbing hold of Noah's wrist, and pulling him in with a strength that surprised her.
The vine had wrapped itself around her leg, squeezing tightly. Emma struggled, kicking the plant. It didn't let up. "What the hell is this?" she screamed angrily. Angry at the situation, angry for being so stupid as to get caught.
Emma strapped the muddy collar onto the kitten's neck. It gave a soft protest, but quickly complied. "Shhh, it's okay kitty," Emma cooed, stroking the soft fur on the kitten's back.
Emma took a bow, laughing quietly to herself. She had pulled it off, they had made it across the bridge safe and sound.
There, in the middle of the rubble and dust stood strong a pillar. The pillar was made of smooth, white stone, and seemed to reflect the sun.
She pulled the a string out from behind a tree. "This is good," she said, "we can use it for our animal traps." She quickly moved on, indifferent to his approval.
Her dress was a faint lavender, and it danced around her in the breeze. She laughed and spun around, arms raised high.
