The boy stood watchings the fences he would soon have to paint. He was angry that his mother would make him spend his free time painting stupid fences. So he just sat there, waiting until it was dark.
The old nun gently put on her uniform and walked out to meet with a few of the other nuns. She walked slowly, replaying the memories of the young man who had stolen her heart, right before she accepted her duty as a nun. Now she regretted the fact that she hadn't married him, instead of the church. The church was wonderful, but she knew that her life would be much better if she had married the man who long ago stole her heart.
For every year, they decorated a christmas tree. The lights would flicker, brilliantly bringing out the warm colors that decorated the small house. And that small tree would bring happiness to the family that sat with empty smiles, lying to the world through clenched teeth that they were happy. Even though their hearts ached.
The two spent days, months and years thinking about the miles that separated them. As she watched her teardrops fall onto her lap she mourned her choice to move away from everyone she knew; everyone she called "friend'. She wished that she could rewind the hands of time, and go back miles, and miles to where her beloved lived.
