effiie
she lost her earring as she fell to earth with a sickening crunch,
it was handed to me in a plastic bag, still warm.
you crept in between the crevasses
in my mind, and with each breath i take
(rasping), you rattle in my lungs.
i dived heart-first and found delight
somewhere six-feet down all covered in dirt,
let my body decay and in death
give life to the earth. i nourish.
There's nothing special about a jewel,
but the way the firelight dances in your eyes
convinces me that rubies pale in comparison
to you as you burn inside my veins.
i have always been told i was willful,
stubborn, arrogant, miserable without her.
fingers carded through my hair and
her lips brushed mine and when i caved
into her touch her memory ran but
her taste lingered; fire on my tongue.
i refuse to accept, and so i dream instead.
