We hid ourselves in the thicket near the road. We stayed as still as we could. Slowly the sounds of the horse's hooves on the pavement gradually grew louder, than the squeaking wheel of the cart. We held our breaths as it rolled by, and didn't breathe again until the sound was gone.
As soon as the blindfold was removed she gasped. The skyline sparkled like nothing she'd ever seen before.
"It's amazing!" she marveled.
"I'm glad you like it," he answered, smiling. "Because this is where we'll be living."
I couldn't believe my eyes. They weren't monsters. They were anything BUT savage. They looked strange and were definitely not human, but does that really guarantee anything? I watched as they communicated and played. The bigger ones seemed to care for the smaller. They were just like animals, maybe more.
There's at least a dozen of them, hiding in the grass. I wasn't sure what we were going to do about it but we had to do something. We couldnt escape unnoticed. This was going to be a conflict.
It's about being real, Charlie. It's about letting those around you know who you are. You don't really know a person until they really know you, after all. You trust them with everything and then, most importantly, you trust yourself. You trust yourself to do whatever it is that's important to you.
It was dark but that made no difference. The darkness was supposed to bring coldness and chilly air, no matter where you were. But if anything else it was hotter than it had been during the day. I needed to find somewhere to survive.
It didn't matter what they knew, or didn't knew. They wouldn't be a part of my life anymore. It'd be as though they never existed in mine, so what they retained of me was a moot point. I had no more reason to bother with them.
