I stomped away from the Keeper. "Schylare! Where are you going?" I ignored her as I fumed. "You were destined to be the next Keeper! Running away isn't going to change that!" I didn't look back. The Elves were not going to forget their herritage if I decided not to become the Keeper. They would be able to find another Elf to take my place, and I was going to disappear forever.
No one was ready for this. Nothing could have prepared us for what was to come. This was a calamity like no one had ever seen, and the panic and fear was already crushing the world, making the Governments job far too hard to controll anything. The human race was failing....and there was nothing we could do to stop it.
'Beware.' His words hung in the air, choking me. I always thought he was just a superstitions old man with an over active imagination. Boy....if only he knew how wrong I was. I stuggled to keep from going into a fit of panic. I had to keep my mind clear if I was going to make it out alive.
