Not a thread of hope left. It was such a slim chance anyway . . . what with no eye-witnesses to quiz or even a fingerprint left. Then he found it - a thread, a simple cotton fiber wedged onto a nail. Now there was something to go on - not much, but something. This strand provided a thread of hope that the murderer would be found, apprehended, and pay for his crime.
