Stretched out across her corner of the floor, she began to run through steps in her head. It was only a few more minutes until the directors called out ¨TIME¨ and all the dancers would be forced to line up, ready to take the stage. But she wasn't. This was her first time ever dancing in the Nutcracker, and although she was elated, she also felt a pang of nervousness when she imagined all the faces that would be staring up at her.
Adorable, it wasn't what he wanted. Being the nice guy that he was, he'd been called it more times than he could count, but he was growing tired of it. The way she said it made him feel defeated, like she considered him more of a little brother than a boyfriend, if he'd ever even get to be that. Every time she gushed, ¨Oh my goodness- you're ADORABLE!¨ he lost a little more hope.
She threw away his toothbrush before she left. She didn't know why. He wouldn't care, he wouldn't notice, but part of her still hoped that while she was at work, he would stop being mad long enough to come back to their house and notice that she had discarded something of his as blatantly as he had discarded their marriage.
It was just a falcon, but it was enough to spook him. As it flew across the top of the ominous building and out of sight, he was reminded that this would be his first ever job interview at the laboratories. He felt his forehead break out in sweat. The doors stood tall and unmoving, as if already telling him no.

In this new, golden town, wealth was everything. It was a constant annoyance when it came up in conversation so bluntly at every party, the deciding factor between ¨I knew I liked you¨ and ¨oh sorry, it's my mom, I have to take this.¨ It disgusted me. My family never came close to fitting the category of 'poor', but we certainly were't rolling in it either, and we were judged for it. I could tell.
Without her brother, her life was bland. She used to laugh constantly at how unpredictable he was. Now her life was only a circle of the same motions; she had even grown to expect her mothers bedroom door to be shut tight, all day, and she certainly was not surprised anymore by the wailing that came from behind it at night. In her bland, grey life, unpredictable was something she no longer knew.
Without her brother, life was bland. She used to laugh daily because of how unpredictable he was. Now she felt like all she ever did was go through the motions; she even knew to expect her mother's bedroom door to be closed every afternoon after school now, never expecting it to open. Ever since that car accident, nothing in her grey life was unpredictable anymore.
Her aura was yellow. Everyone she touched knew it, it was no secret. Ever since she had moved in, she had shown an incredible light that lit up the day of anyone who encountered her.
Why does my head feel such joy and such dread since the moment I said beyond?
