The trails all lead to no where, which was somewhere, but not where she wanted to go. They were full of hills, holes, roots, vines, and other obstacles and even after conquering each trial, she still ended up no where, so following trails already tread, she sat down and finally cried.
There was always that one promise, whispered, yelled, declared, and made known by every parent to their child that the child should come to no harm while growing up. It's a promise that is always broken. A child will always be harmed somehow, but it doesn't have to horrific, it is just a step leading the child to becoming a strong adult.
There were so many things he had counted on in life, but seeing his father at a game was never one of them. He had accepted the fact that his father would never see what he was so proud to do, and so when it finally happened, he almost fumbled the ball. His father had finally pulled himself from his chair, stopped counting all tears he'd shed over his lost wife, and come out to support his son.
It sat there looking listless. Try as she might, Lidia could never get the rose to brighten up. She regretted taking it from the garden. Each day she watched it wilt further and further. Soon the once vibrant, red petals began to curl and darken. She had thought setting it on the sill would make it come back, but to no avail.
It was like they didn't even belong to him anymore. With just one look, he was hers. There was no falling sensation, just a sort of...'it's done' feeling. He had no control over it, and she had no idea she had done it. He was just hers from the moment he laid eyes on her.
