The first, actually the second car accident I got into involved only me, a Ford Aerostar minivan, and an ice patch on a stretch of freeway not too far from my house. I was heading to the doctor's office, then I was sliding and facing backward on the freeway.
Every single time I try, it seems to backfire. Except last week when I was stuck in line at the DMV I had a breakthrough. It was absolutely horrendous. The old me would have started fuming only after ten minutes: fidgeting, huffing, exhaling loudly, grumbling. The old me was boiling up. But now, the old me was being successfully held at bay.
I haven't covered my head with a hat in a long time. I have lots of hair and they tend not to make hats for people with as much hair as I have, The only thing I generally have available is those damned "reggae" "rastafarian" novelty hats. I do have a cowboy hat I had custom-made in Dallas once, though. I love that one.
So much greenery! It's exploding in my eyes! I should have gone to the eye doctor sooner and gotten a new prescription. Who knew that trees had leaves? Who knew that leaves had veins? I want to open those veins and suck out the marvelous life juice that makes a tree a tree!
Sifting through my boxes – which usually hate doing – I actually felt light at heart. I looked around my new apartment and I was thrilled! I love a small, simple space. I like being able to set it up and have the only walls be made of organizational changes. Who needs a one bedroom or two bedrooms place?
Never before had I been consumed by so much disappointment in myself. My future had no prospects on tap to make things look better. I was totally lost. I had screwed up and it was going to take some doing to get myself back on track and back in Mom's good graces.
"Shame, shame, shame," admonished Andrew. "It was such a beautiful day. The way the sunlight was diffused through the air was splendid.
"Too bad it had to end like this."
It didn't matter what anyone else thought. Skip was going to bury his stash right here, in this strange metal tree. Humans sure had a weird idea of what a tree was, but who was he to question? They were bigger, needed more food.
