No one knew who he was, or where they came from. Princess Josephine was suspicious from the minute they entered their land and she had a right to be. Turns out that the visitor was to be feared. Turns out that her kingdom would never be the same.
They came in the night, dark, lurking in the shadows. The leader of the enemy was ruthless and amazing. He came with his hair billowing out behind him. In his hand he clutched an ivory staff, carved with interwoven designs of leaves and vines.
It didn't matter. She was untouchable, royalty among her subjects. Nothing could hurt her. No one was allowed to show her affection. Love was not an option. It meant being vulnerable, and…touchable. She couldn't go there. Royals walk alone. That's what she was meant to be, but it didn't mean that she had to like it. Or even act by it.
Princess Josephine, her people, and her country had been threatened, and they took it in stride. Something told her, however, that the princess must be more careful with those who she called her friends. She tried to play it cool and calm her persistent paranoia.
“I’m not cut out for all this responsibility! You know that! What the hell are you expecting me to tell the thousands of people depending on me? Look at me, I cannot do this! People may die! Please… Don’t do this. I’m a failure. You know it.” The Princess’ voice could be heard all throughout the castle, as she was sharing heated words with her father, the King of Arcland.
Princess Josephine knew from the second she walked into the throne room, that whatever task her father had given her, it would not be an easy one. She was beginning to accept it, the fact that her country was at war with Calmine. She was to help lead refugees through her land and across the border into the Free Land, where their royals would house them.
Responsibility was something difficult for her to deal with. It was bestowed upon her, whether she was ready to deal with it or not, and there was nothing she could do to change that. She would have to accept what she’d been given and work with it. It was her role as a royal to do this for her people. This task was meant for her, this feat was meant for her.
