The man ordered a dark porter from the bar. I instinctively followed suit and ordered the same. The first sip revealed a bitterness which I had not experienced in an ale before. This was my first experience of London - bitterness. However, this was quickly meshed with an inherent sweetness as an aftertaste as it left my palate.
