John walked down the cold, frostbitten city streets. No sounds could be heard that night- nothing out of the ordinary. The sound of a light flickering. The sound of a window shattering or of a car's alarm. As the apartment lights began to switch off, John knew that the nightly curfew had begun. He waited five minutes, until the street lights too, began to dim and flicker. No one of any sanity would be out now, and this made John shudder. He felt like someone was watching him from the shadows, although that could have just been his fear, combined with the knowledge that he was doing something forbidden. As the last street light slowly flickered off, John turned, and, freezing any doubt within him, he pulled his parka up over his head for the warmth and continued to walk.
