She shoulo have begged. She could have told him how she felt, told him the truth. She should have screamed it from the roof tops, at the top of her lungs, until her voice went hoarse. She should have made him listen, moved him, shook him to the very core.
Maybe then he would have stayed.
Ivy felt her blood run cold, her heart throbbing and squeezing her chest tight. No, she thought to herself, trying not to let the fear seep in, no it's a trick. It's a lie. They wouldn't have done this to me.
All she could do was stair straight ahead, mind oddly calm. The reality of the situation had long since set in and now it was simply the quiet calm before the storm. She watched the court room, heard them as they put her on trial, and silently swore she would destroy them all.
She put her head in her hands. As her fingers grabbed at her hair, her skin,the edges of her eyes,nose,lips,chin, curled around her neck, all she could feel was the slow draining of happiness. Every motion she made, every blink, ever THOUGHT ate away at the happiness she had felt for the last seven years. It tore at the dreams she had built, the comfort she had found, the steps she had taken at getting better. And, as she watched him walk away, all she could feel was the burning tears on her face, and the bitter taste of despair in her mouth.
He smiled to himself, looking at the bowl of half munched on pretzels and the last remaining m'n'm's that clung to the bottom. The girl next to him has practically downed the lot of it in five minutes in anticipation on the film's climax. All he could do? Watch with amusment as she shrieked and stuffed more in her mouth.
