Checkmate she thought as she leaned back in the executive chair. The executive chair in the corner office. Floor to ceiling windows gave her the backdrop she said she would kill for. She hadn't needed to go to such extremes. She just gave him the rope to hang himself and he had done the rest. She remembered the first time she'd been in this office. He'd reached across his desk, put his hand on her knee and said he'd teach her all she needed to know.
She placed top of the league table but it wasn't where she wanted to be. She had had it up to here with ping pong. It had never been her dream. She placed her bat calmly on the table and simply walked away.
She barrel rolled down the hill with the free abandon she remembered as a child...this time though she didn't get up quite so quickly and run to the top to do it again...this time she savoured it.
