Quentin hovered over him, eyes glittering in anticipation.
"Did you do it, Kai? Did you kill him?" Kai continued to stare at his hands, mouth shaping soundless words as he watched the blood drip down his arms.
Tatum scrambled up to Kai's side, her dainty hands gripping his cheeks. "Kai?" She gasped, "Come on, Kai, look at me!" She pulled his face up to her own in attempt to catch his gaze, but he looked right through her, eyes unseeing.
Quentin pushed Tatum aside, crouching down to meet Kai's eye level. "C'mon Kai, did you do it or not?"
Kai didn't respond, he was looking over Quentin's shoulder, eyes caught on something that wasn't even there. The older boy's eyes narrowed, and he slammed his fist into Kai's cheek, knocking him to the floor.
"Answer me!" he screamed at Kai's limp body, but the boy remained slumped on the floor, cheek pressed to the damp floor.
"Quentin!" Tatum cried, grabbing her brothers arm and attempting to pull him away from Kai. "Stop it! Can't you see he's scared? Leave him alone!"
The older boy pulled his arm from the small girls grip, leaned down and grabbed Kai by the collar of his shirt, pulling him up and slamming his against the wall. "Did you do it, Kai? DID YOU FUCKING DO IT?"
"What's going on in here?" Snapped a sudden voice from behind the trio. The siblings whipped around to meet the indifferent gaze of Gage. His eyes scanned over the room, halting on Quentin's hands attached to the front of an unresponsive Kai's shirt. His expression quickly went from cold to furious. "Unhand him!"
Quentin stood back immediately, watching as Gage strode across the room and gathered Kai into his arms.
The boy raised his head slowly, praying to the god he didn't believe in that they wouldn't see the way his knees knocked together. He watched as Dominick's lips twisted into a mocking sneer and twisted his cloak tighter around himself.
"Did you really think you would escape, Alec?" He murmured in a soft, amused voice.
Alec said nothing, but gazed back at the man defiantly. Dominick's smile dropped and he glided forward until their faces were separated by nothing but a mere centimeter. The boy squeezed his eyes shut, and his body erupted into tremulous quivers.
Dominick's hot breath drifted forward, ghosting over Alec's trembling lips and kissing his blood caked cheeks. "You didn't think," he whispered, "We'd let you go, did you?"
Large hands slammed down on Alec's shoulders, forcing him to his knees. The sound of flesh hitting the pavement filled the air, and the boy sank his teeth into his bottom lip to keep from crying out.
The tall man let out a rich laugh, his fingers caressing the boys cheek in an oddly adoring sort of way. "Alec," he said in a jokingly scornful way, "You should know us better than that by now." The child let out a shaky breath as Dominick's hands twisted into his glossy black locks. "In fact, you should know us well enough to know exactly what we're going to do to you."
Janice walked quickly, shoulders hunched against the heavy downpour that showered over her head. Her eyes darted nervously about the street as a result to the heavy paranoia that burdened her mind. It was rush hour, and the streets were packed with unfamiliar faces that shouldered their way through the crowds of people sheltered beneath umbrellas.
