I gave a speech last year about why Christians need to know all about both Christianity AND other religions in order to be effective in arguing about it. I used a comical example. When comparing Superman to Batman, you would say that Superman is the better superhero because he IS this that and the other thing, but you would also need to draw on the fact that Batman IS NOT this that and the other thing.
