The tires hit the asphalt and let out a screeching sound. It was my first time behind the wheel and it was like a celebritory "yee haw" although I felt self-conscious and my mom jump a little from the quick jerk of the Lincoln continental. Who knew a huge car could move an inch that fast.
I am sitting here, mid-winter, wishing that it was 75 degrees and sunny all the time so I could learn how to play golf. It's a man's sport, that's what they say, but I'm hoping that it will give me a leg up in good ol' corporate America. To be a good golfer means a respectable business person.
I decided that I am moving. I am out of here. I can't stand the cold ever since my little toe fell off due to exposure. I wanted to wear flip flops; I needed to wear flip flops, I didn't want to wear snow boots any longer. I rebelled against mother nature and lost.
She was about as graceful as a rhino. She moved through the all-you-can-eat line, bumping into the other patrons, not apologizing for her feet landing on their toes, and glaring at them like it was their fault that they were slowing her down to get to the crab rangoon.
My best friend lived on Elm Street in the small town where we grew up. If you did one of those "what's my stripper name?" games. Hers would probably turn out alright, mine on the other hand wouldn't. I grew up 3 miles away from her house, on Hwy 12. It also has a Route name, but I can't remember.
Life is a comedy. Just the other day, I fell down the stairs and sprained my ankle. Well, I guess that means that life is a tragedy. But wait... I didn't die. I guess my indecision is comedy to someone out there. Maybe just me.
I think it is funny that this word came up today. I have been working on learning the practice of meditation and in all of my studies, the teacher or individuals discussing the topic, bring up the buddha. "Buddha never called it Buddhism."
It was hot. I was sweating bullets. I didn't know what was going on around me, and I didn't want to screw up. It showed in my face, and in my inability to answer simple questions. I didn't want to be wrong. Wheat harvest in Kansas, the grain guys have a hard demeanor most times of year, but in the hot, humid Kansas sun, it was razor sharp.
It was a scientific experiment that had changed everything. They worked in the lab together since they were both interns, nothing had happened between them, and nothing had been there in the form of want or lust, but the experiment of the scientific nature sent the relationship on a 180 degree tailspin.
She hit him across the face with the cast iron pan that had been passed down from her great, great, grandmother. She had a brief thought in that microsecond that perhaps her great, great grandmother had once imagined using the skillet for the same purpose and not making pork chops.
