"You won't be able to hide from it. Denial won't help anything," he said. But I only turned away. I refused to believe that anyone could predict something like that. It just wasn't possible.
"Don't hate me for something I can't control. I'm only the messenger." I shook my head, but still didn't turn around.
"I don't hate you. I just wish we'd never met."
"I need to go," she said, the pain in her voice obvious. But I held fast, clutching her arm like my life depended on it. "Julie, let go." I shook my head. I couldn't let her go. Letting her go would mean letting go of everything. Not just letting go of our friendship, but everything I'd ever known.
