It's an end to a new chapter. A new phase in life, we're all growing old and apart. Taking leaps of faith as we go our separate ways. Life changes, plans change, ideas change, people change. Switching things up is healthy, it's a new start, a good start. A start that everyone needs every once in a while.
It was a new day, the first of the new year. It was bright and early, the sun hadn't even risen yet. It was still dewy and the birds were slumbering in their nests. My breath was visible, but only slightly. There was a breeze the drifted past my right ear and as it did I could have sworn that it whispered "this is the start-over you have been waiting for, your new beginning."
The trees had whispered, the snow touched the lifeless grass. There was no sun, barely any plants were alive, or so it seemed. Darkness fell, and though it was only for a moment, that moment felt like a lifetime. The cries for warmth made us positively sure that this was something we could not get used to.
We walked with me. His foot steps aligned with mine although I could not see them. I heard the loud thump of his feet hit the sand and I could feel it shake the earth. It was dark and cold, lost at sea I had no idea where to go. But he walked with me and led me home.
It's push to start. Sex drive, cars, locks. It's all automatic.
