The castle was defended by a line of turtles who knew the answer to the meaning of life. But the meaning of life wasn't a question, exactly, so how could it have an answer?
The turtles did not bother themselves with this. Their lives were preoccupied with defending the castle that had given them their namesake. This is the meaning of life. To be fully devoted to something you will always defend.
