We'd been dating since my sophomore year, so it was no surprise when we declared we were getting married. We had the church, the cake, the preacher.. Yet, no dress. And the wedding was in a week (oh the joys of military life.) My mother's dress, which I had planned to wear since I was in grade school, had been destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.
On a fluke, I went to a thrift store. It was 22.06. I had 23 dollars in my wallet. It was the most beautiful dress I ever wore, and my husband's knees went weak when he saw me walking down the aisle. I've never been more proud.
It's been several years, and the dress doesn't fit anymore. But one day, I can just hope my daughter will be as proud, walking down the aisle to whomever has the honor of taking her as his bride.
