"Oh, what's the use? I'll never get it to work!" Ethan whines, and kicks the chasis again. This time the engine sputters and coughs, and the chainsaw comes to life. "Excellent!" Ethan says with a sinister smile as he turns back to the people bound and gagged on the floor behind him. "Now where were we?"
She sits and stares out across the crowded room from her spot on the bleachers, the coldness of the steal bleeding into the back of her thighs through the gauzy white material of her dress. "A timeless classic", it turns out, was the saleslady's way of saying "This dress is sold old-fashioned, that when you wear it, you'll get old waiting for someone to ask you to dance."
As the lights dim around him,
Leslie's pace slows
and his steps echo
beat after beat after beat
down the coldwhitelinoleum path of the darkened hallway
A electric hum charges the air
Buzzing Loud
then silence then LOUD
On the highest of shelves, in the darkest corner
I sit still and wait, gathering dust
One day, some day, some day, one day.
I know, I hope, for someone must
Want a new teddy, as I want a new owner.
Stare across the dark blue vast
to the other side of the bay
and yonder on the farther shore
a figure, draped in soft ash gray.
A mournful cry sweeps over
on the gentle, summer breeze
and echoes all around the park
as it whispers through the trees
The leaves begin to fall with speed
flying from the nearby branches
green gold yellow red and brown
how quickly now the time advances
A shiver rustles through the grass
and chases off the sun and warm
night rapidly begins to fall
as tiny icy crystals form
The shore-bound figure turns dark
as the biting wind begins to cry
turn your back to cold white flakes
that cascade as glitter from the sky
A faint glow lights the shore again
as dark and cold begin to fade
color returns slowly to the horizon
where that constant figure swayed
Glance once more toward the bay
Squint across the fading black
there on the bright'ning horizon
A soft pink figure smiles back
Down and back, down and back
All along the rutted path
O'er cobblestone and dusty plains
Wander, wanderer, down and back
To and fro, to and fro
Through the darkness, onward go
'Cross knee-high fields and tow'ring wood
Wander, wanderer, to and fro
On and on, on and on
Fight the wind and blazing sun
Through sleet and rain and snow and hail
Wander, wanderer, on and on
To the horizon, through the sky
Wander, wanderer, wander.
