"Order."
Raise your hands, children,
no shouting or laughing
I want you to tell me together,
one voice children,
'Good evening Ms. Clemons,'
I want you to pack up your bags now,
no talking.
Head home now,
shut your eyes
and fall asleep
and never wake up.
The ground was wet and cold beneath her bare feet, squishing in between her toes and making her want to cringe. As she walked forward one, two steps she could feel how uneven and unstable the dirt beneath her really was. Rain, she decided, was bad not only because of how wet it was when it fell, but because of what it did to everything else.
She'd never been anything but a pawn, that's what she thought as she felt herself half-walking half-floating across the ground towards the tall man in front of her. He held out the gun straight from his chest, so that it pointed towards and even with her head. She put up her hands in surrender, even though she could already see the bullet coming for her face. Nothing but a pawn.
