the noise was deafening. He could do nothing but cover his hands and hope it would fade away. He just wished he'd ran when he had the chance. Now, he was stuck, trapped here while this awful noise threatened to burst his ear drums. Bloody typical wasn't it?

the food tasted of nothing. Mush, goo, it was just an empty texture in her mouth. She winced as she swallowed, wishing there was something else to eat. If she wanted to stay alive she'd have to get used to it though. As she turned this over in her mind, the bland food seemed to disappear a little quicker.

the scent was overpowering. The room was simply filled with them; white lillies, pink lillies, yellow lillies. She couldn't breathe for the smell. But she was so happy in that moment, for it could only mean one thing. He was back. He knew lillies were her favourite flower!
there were twelve buns in the bag. And one for luck, a bakers' dozen. They felt warm against Emilie's chest as she carried them home, looking forward to splitting one and spreading it thickly with butter. Her mind raced ahead to the log fire and the hot chocolate which would accompany it.

the sharp prick of thorns pierced through her heart. She couldn't believe this. She had only been here a week, but already she had been welcomed by the locals and taken in as part of the village she was staying in.
