The air flows around me, billows up my skirt, power of the sky, cooling with energy
Each inhale is stuttered; each exhale is punctuated with another gasp, another ache in the abdomen.
A crooked grin is waiting as he resurfaces for air, fond and amused a little too proud.
He likes that smile.
He hates that smile.
“I hate you,” he informs the owner.
Another self-satisfied grin, and it’s followed with another uncharacteristically bad pun.
He loses precious oxygen yet again as the laughter finds him once more.
the air was a little harder to breathe in here. the cave was dark, damp, filled with meandering puddles of muddy water. there was the taste of mold in the air, and every step felt heavy. he continued on, pushing his way through the tunnels, knowing it was now or never.

if I say the air is like how the famous songwriter has described – salty, rusty, and with whispers of words, would you be surprised?
but it is summer. and I do not want this to end. it feels so real each time I breath.
