  5. When I see bamboo, I think of pandas. Those creepy Asian animals that I’ve never liked. Now we are using bamboo as a “green” resource. If we use too much bamboo, will the pandas lose out on their feeding resource? Is this globally correct? I’m not sure. I don’t like pandas, but I don’t want them to starve.

  8. He knelt by the planter, pulling a thin sliver of bamboo from it’s place in his sleeve and attaching it to the side, where it blended in, looking like nothing more than a odd growth. He rose, dusted his knees, and headed down the hall, transferring his success through the molar cap.

  29. Bamboo. I remember the reed on my clarinet, when I was in the fifth and sixth grade. “Reeds need a certain sort of bamboo” Mr. Jackson told us, almost like the minister at the Congregational Church would intone, “The Lord be with you” and we would respond, “Also with you” followed by the ever expected, “Let us pray”.

From Mr. Jackson I learned the right kind of bamboo is sacred.

  30. Bamboo? If it grew in clumps I’d know it was where it felt most at home, but in that small pot, it grew solitary, obtuse in size and unwanted. It was a vulgar thing, that straight line of tacky wood. It had no use, no purpose, it simply grew from the gaudy base.

It wasn’t hard, I realised, if you took the pot and tilted it, lay it flat on the ground and stamped on that one shoot, to break it. The pieces lay like broken glass, a shattered window fallen at my feet.

  38. The bamboo spread like curtains as the soldier prowled forward. His mission was unclear, all he really knew was to gather intel on an unknown enemy two clicks ahead. He was prepared to settle in to his ghilly suit for a long night of watching, when he heard a tiny crack from far away, and the world went red. “Guess their intel was better,” he thought as he slipped away.
