  1. I walked down the country road and heard a sound that I had missed since leaving the country. Sitting on his front porch was an old man rocking back and forth in his creaking old rocking chair. He strummed carelessy on his banjo that was as old as he was. I stopped to listen to him play. When he noticed me he smiled at me, I smiled back at him and headed strolled up his long driveway.

  10. Banjo elicits a wonderful memory of my father. He decided to learn how to play banjo shortly after my mother died.

I loved listening to him practice each day and hearing him share what he had learned. He has been gone for almost 8 years now but I still remember him and his banjo.

  12. I love the banjo. It reminds me of a small lake, not the evil one with that people who kill you, but the soft overalls and smell of pancakes cooking, maple syrup hot from the woods. The smell of rain and the trees and the forest that surrounds you in the midst of your imagination and the deers who talk to you softly.

  16. All banjo players should have arrows through their heads. They should be accompanied by an orchestra of bagpipes tooteling in the wind. Nothing should stop them, not even time itself. Or herself – that’s what she said.

But she was wrong. Only her mother knew, only her mother could look in her eyes and tell her, “dear you’re wrong.”

But being wrong is only half right, half the time.
