  19. The odd cacophony of bleeps begins early: six am, even on the weekends, if things haven’t been reset beforehand. It starts with the ominous buzz of the alarm clock (the bleep of swears from its owner as she fumbles to hit the snooze button) joined soon enough by a counter-measure of coffee drips coming from the kitchenette below, the smell wafting into the bedroom just as the smart phone starts to emit its own curious noises from its position on the charging stand. And soon enough it seems that the whole house is alive; each electronic appliance contributing its own beep or bleep or whirl: the wisp of the bathroom fan, the air conditioning, the computer starting up (it wants to say “hello”); and outside–just barely audible through the dual-pane windows of the woman’s castle–there is an entire world of bleeps and whistles being emitted on car horns and dry brake pads by frustrated commuters, their minds racing with the day’s agenda. Everything continues just the same.

  32. Bleep? What kind of word is bleep? I don’t even know what to say about it. It’s more of an action than anything. You bleep out swears. That’s the only use I could come up with for it. Maybe someday there will be a better use for the word bleep but as of right now, there really isn’t.
