For the first time ever, Tracie prayed for bears.

  23. The master. I don’t know much about you, but I’ve heard a lot of things. For instance, that you’re calm and peaceful, kind and thoughtful, also thought-provoking. I got this from a neighbor, Mr. Dismow, who lived across the hall at our rooming house. He had a statue of you on the kitchen counter, next to the sink and the Brave Wash, a cheaper kind of detergent he said did the same job as the expensive stuff. “They’re always trying to talk you into spending more money for nothing,” he said to me one day. I was having coffee with him, even though I wasn’t supposed to have coffee or be in Mr. Dismow’s apartment. I pointed to the statue on the sink. “Who’s that,” I asked. “That is a very wise and decent human being, but not really a human being. More like God. You know Jesus? Well he probably learned everything he knew from him.”

  25. Buddha is apart of the freaking best religion in the world. I told my mom I was a Buddhist and she got very mad. She says I am a curious teenager, and that I am being irrational. I think it is a beautiful religion. My sister is becoming a Buddhist to piss my mom off, and teach her acceptance, although she is passionate about the religion as well.

  29. Buddha is an odd kind of deity, in modern western culture the obese are seen as a blight on society. SO much so that many people share the fact that theyre trying to lose weight and many fat people are actualy treated as lesser humans for being larger, even if they’re happy and healthy. Why then, do we worship the happy little fat man so readily? Some food for thought (but you should probably not eat this it’s fattening).

  30. He had never asked to be worshiped. The responsibility hung over him like a lead cape, a brick in his skull, an iron collar.

  31. Peace, love, positivity, good vibes, deep thoughts, existence, enlightenment, good deeds, self indulgence.

  32. Maybe my heart deserves this turmoil.

Maybe I want this feeling of utter madness of nights I stay up with a personal slideshow of memories, where the few sentences exchanged have borne epics from this imaginative mind. It’s a helpless and pathetic struggle of ‘what if’s and ‘maybe’s – words unsaid; glances not caught; breath stuck in chest.

How you lit every nerve on fire, every fibre on edge. How your cool gaze penetrated my soul, and in that moment I was afraid – afraid that you could read my fascination like it was inked on my skin. How your soft grin sent a shudder to the depths of me, my heart soaked in saccharine and could barely exhale. How your dulcet voice lulled me onto the cliff, the plunge was gladly and willingly taken.

This fire needs to be stopped.

I think it has a lot of wisdom and reading is very beneficial. Also, I know there’s a religion around Buddha and I would love to learn more about it.

  38. Matthew kept a little buddha in his desk – a red, carved trinket he had bought at a stand in Thailand, and already collecting dust like it was accumulating a new robe. Matthew grew older and forgot about the figurine – that is, until he was pushing the old furniture to the garage when he heard a rattling in the top drawer. He curiously fished the buddha out of its hiding place and held it in his weathered hand, not noticing at first that his vision was beginning to blur.

  40. This morning, the BBC interviewed this lady about the destruction of Buddhist relics by the Taliban. The interviewer said that some are arguing that they cannot possible reconstruct those relics and perhaps should leave that space as it is to represent what happened. The poor lady disagreed. She kept saying, “I can’t imagine not seeing them again”.
